Housing developers are some of the biggest donors to political parties.
 

They donate tens of thousands of pounds to buy influence and weight the planning system ever further in their own favour - driving up profits while people are left without decent, affordable housing.

Time and again, across the country the hopes of the public are silenced and side-lined as developments ride roughshod over community concerns and protections for nature.
 

We cannot accept a situation local democracy is ignored and where those with the most money get the final say.
 

Meanwhile, genuinely affordable homes are all too rare, locking millions out of home ownership, leaving people stuck on waiting lists for years and forcing children into cramped temporary accommodation.
 

Our country deserves confidence that decisions are always made in the public interest. 
 

Cash-for-access leaves the clear impression that the same developers profiting from low-quality, overpriced housing are also writing the rules.
 

It’s time to ban housing developers from donating to political parties.
