We demand Hertfordshire County Council pays £38,000 to restore our 55 bus service.
The Liberal Democrat-run County Council has allowed devastating cuts to the 55 bus service, leaving Grange residents with just one bus an hour.
Local Labour representatives fought to stop these cuts. We wrote to both Arriva and Hertfordshire County Council, met with the bus operator, and pressed for solutions. Despite this, the service was cut.
What's most frustrating? It would cost just £38,000 a year to restore the service.
Arriva asked the County Council to provide this funding.
The Council said no.
That decision makes no sense when Hertfordshire County Council has received £6.7 million from the Labour Government to improve local bus services. The cost of saving the 55 amounts to barely 0.5% of that funding.
Meanwhile, Grange residents are paying the price.
The cuts make it harder for people to get to work, attend appointments, visit the town centre, see friends and family, and stay connected to their community.
At a time when we should be improving public transport, the County Council is allowing services to get worse.
Grange deserves better. Please sign the petition today.
