In this Westminster Hall debate on living standards in the East of England, I highlighted the deep-rooted inequalities facing our region—where too many families are trapped in cycles of low pay, insecure housing, and limited access to public services. I made clear that poverty here is not inevitable; it’s the result of political choices and underinvestment.
I called for urgent action to build genuinely affordable homes, improve transport links, and ensure that economic growth reaches every corner of our communities.
Tackling poverty requires bold, targeted public investment and a commitment to fairness that puts people before profit.
